In 1948, the 2 minute sustained wind speed reached 80 mph
at the Wichita Weather Bureau Office. It's ironic that,
in 2016, early morning severe thunderstorms whipped
Eisenhower Airport with an 80 mph gust. In 1954,
Wichita set a July record high temperature when 113
degrees torched the city. Chanute and Salina also set
record highs for the date. Chanute hit a hideously humid
115 while Salina sweat it out at 113.
